Choi gets his first hit in 2 games since returning from injury → 88 days…team loses in extra innings

Ji-Man Choi (Pittsburgh Pirates) got his first hit in his second game since returning from the disabled list.

Choi went 1-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout while batting fifth in the lineup against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, U.S., on Sept. 9 (ET). His batting average rose to .125.

Pittsburgh’s lineup was Henry Davis (right field), Brian Reynolds (left field), Zack Swinski (center field), Carlos Santana (first base), Choi Jeong-ji (designated hitter), Nick Gonzalez (second base), Jared Triolo (third base), Tukupita Makano (shortstop), and Jason Delay (catcher). The starting pitcher is Mitch Keller.

Kyle Nelson started for Arizona and the lineup was Heraldo Perdomo (shortstop), Ketel Marte (second base), Corbin Carroll (right field), Christian Walker (first base), Rueredes Gurriel Jr. (left field), Emmanuel Rivera (third base), Dominic Canzon (designated hitter), Gabriel Moreno (catcher), and Alex Thomas (center field).

Choi came to the plate in the top of the second inning with the bases loaded and two outs. He was stranded on a 2B2S situation when he fouled off a 92.5 mph (148 km/h) fastball from Nelson. Gonzalez then struck out and Triolo grounded out to the third baseman to end the threat.

In the top of the fourth, Choi walked for the second time. There were no runners on base. At 2B0S, he took a 91.9-mph (about 147 km/h) fastball from Tyler Gilbert. However, he was thrown out at second base on the pitcher’s choice.

Pittsburgh took the lead in the top of the sixth. Delay led off with a walk. Davis followed with a strikeout. Reynolds walked and stole second. Swinski came to the plate and hit an RBI double. Pittsburgh had the first laugh.바카라사이트

Choi led off the seventh inning with a single and was stranded on second base.

Arizona tied the game in the bottom of the eighth. Leadoff hitter Thomas hit a 91 mph (about 146 km/h) cutter from reliever Collin Holderman over the right field fence. Holderman’s cutter sailed into the stomach and Thomas couldn’t miss.

Neither team scored in regulation and the game went to extra innings. In the top of the 10th inning, Choi led off with a walk. Choi pulled a six-pitch outside splitter from Scott McCaffrey for a single to right field. It was his first hit since April 12 against the Houston Astros. He was replaced by pinch-hitter Rodolfo Castro to end the game.

Pittsburgh had runners on first and third with no outs when Gonzalez struck out, but Triolo followed with an RBI single. However, they were unable to score the go-ahead run.

Arizona tied the game in the bottom of the 10th on a sacrifice bunt by pinch-hitter Jake McCarthy and an RBI single by Thomas. Perdomo’s sacrifice bunt put runners at first and second with one out. Pittsburgh walked Marte to load the bases with one out and Carroll at the plate. However, Carroll came through with the game-winning hit to give Arizona the 3-2 victory.
