San Diego Padres right-hander Darvish Yu has been placed on the disabled list with an elbow injury.
San Diego manager Bob Melvin broke the news in an interview before the Padres’ game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, on Tuesday.
“I don’t have any new updates yet,” Melvin said, noting that Darvish has traveled to Texas to see Dr. Meister and is away from the team for a second opinion.
True to his word, Darvish was not in the Padres clubhouse that day. The day before, he had visited a St. Louis-area doctor for a checkup.
Dr. Keith Meister is no stranger to Darvish. Dr. Meister performed his Tommy John surgery in 2015.
“He went to a doctor who knew his elbow,” Melvin said, explaining that Darvish went to a doctor he was familiar with. Instead of returning to St. Louis, Darvish will head straight back to San Diego.카지노사이트
Darvish, who has struggled in his last three starts, allowing 13 runs in 16 innings and five runs in four innings against Milwaukee, was placed on the disabled list with elbow inflammation.
“I’m in constant communication with the medical staff and everyone involved,” Darvish said in a postgame interview the day before.
Darvish, who is in the first year of a six-year, $108 million contract extension, is 8-10 with a 4.56 ERA in 136 1/3 innings pitched in 24 games this season.
“I don’t think I’m done yet. My goal is to come back this season,” he said, but he doesn’t have much time left.
