Zack Greinke (28, Arizona Diamondbacks), the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, is down. Can Blake Snell (31, San Diego Padres) really replicate his 2018 glory?
Gallon was knocked around for five runs in 6 1/3 innings at home against the St. Louis Cardinals on July 27. The loss raised his season ERA from 3.18 to 3.36.
Snell, on the other hand, earned his seventh win of the season with six innings of one-run ball against the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 26. He also lowered his season ERA from 2.67 to 2.61.
Snell currently leads the major leagues in ERA. He’s 0.08 ahead of Nathan Eovaldi for second overall, and 0.34 ahead of Justin Steele for second in the National League.
That’s because he struggled mightily in March and April, rebounded in May, and has looked like a super ace since June.
Snell pitched 58 innings in 10 games in June and July, allowing just five earned runs. His ERA over the two months is 0.78.
One of the reasons Snell is able to post such a good ERA, despite still giving up a lot of walks, is his ground ball rate.
Snell has a whopping 85.9% ground ball rate this season. That’s over 8% higher than his career rate of 77.6%. Outside of the shortened season, it’s the highest since his 88% in 2018.
In other words, there’s a lot of luck involved in Snell’s performance. It will be interesting to see if Snell can capitalize on this luck and win his first Cy Young Award in five years.바카라사이트
If Snell wins the National League Cy Young Award, he will become the seventh pitcher in Major League Baseball history to win the award in both leagues.
