There are less than 200 days left for the 2024 College Scholastic Ability Test, which will be held on November 16th. I had a clear goal, so I ran hard for the past time without missing my studies, but I couldn’t let go of baseball, which I really like.
In the end, he challenged the national baseball team during the important period of his senior year of high school, and was proudly selected as one of the final 20 players, training the national team every weekend. This is the story of Jang Yoon-seo (18), an infielder on the national women’s baseball team.
Jang Yoon-seo, a third-year student at Gunsan Girls’ High School located in Gunsan-si, Jeollabuk-do, is busier than anyone else. Like a normal high school student, he attends an academy and divides his spare time into training. It is because of his responsibility as a national baseball representative.
Weekends are more hectic. Starting early in the morning, we head to Mars, where the national team will be training. After a long day of training, there is no rest. I go to my dorm and start studying for the exam. I don’t have enough time to study compared to others, but I hold on to my heart and focus as much as possible in the given time.
“I was under a lot of stress alone. But now I’ve decided to put down the stress and enjoy it again.” He said that as a senior in high school, the burden of academics and training as a national representative is still high. However, Jang Yoon-seo endures silently.
Jang Yoon-seo, who started wearing the Taegeuk mark in 2021 and has been living in the national team for the third year, said, “I was really worried about going to the national team selection this year. Rather, I did not want to go to the national team selection for study, and my parents said that it would be okay no matter what, so I wanted to go to the selection and be selected for the national team.”
What Jang Yoon-seo has decidedly hardened her mind is the ‘2023 Women’s Baseball Asian Cup (BFA Cup)’, which will open in Hong Kong on the 21st. It is an international competition held for the first time in four years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “It is an opportunity that is rare to have once in school days. I really wanted to go out,” she said.
Her brilliant coaching staff also shook Jang Yoon-seo’s heart. “I really wanted to learn from coach Yang Sang-moon and coaches Jeong Geun-woo, Lee Dong-hyeon, Jeong Yong-un, and Heo Il-sang.” Jang Yoon-seo is developing her qualifications as a first baseman under Yang’s special training. Director Yang praised her, saying, “Yoon-seo has improved her skills a lot.”
In the top universities in Seoul that Jang Yoon-seo is aiming for, except for Ewha Womans University, her career as a ‘National Women’s Baseball Team’ cannot be used. Unlike male baseball high school players, female baseball high school players are not subject to selection for baseball specialties. That’s why I can’t let go of my studies anymore. This is because they have to compete on an equal footing with regular students.
I chose the not easy path. It is her parents who give Jang Yoon-seo a strong support whenever she is having a hard time. “My parents support me physically and mentally. I am sorry and thankful for always cheering me on and supporting me. I want to work harder to bring more laughter to my mom and dad.”먹튀검증
Jang Yoon-seo’s ultimate dream is to become a ‘sports counseling psychologist’. Her goal is to go abroad after double majoring in psychology along with sports in college. As her national team, her goal is to qualify for the World Baseball World Cup in August.
“I will win no matter what. In the process, I want to help the national team. Haven’t you hooked up yet? The power of the strongest team, Japan, may be weak. I want to keep winning and go to the finals.” Jang Yoon-seo expressed her strong determination.
The women’s baseball team, led by coach Yang Sang-moon, will depart for Hong Kong on the 24th and play their first game on the 26th. A total of 12 countries participate in this tournament, and if you finish in the top 4, you can win the World Baseball World Cup berth. Attention is focusing on whether Jang Yoon-seo will be able to catch both of her studies and national performance. et16@sportsseoul.com
