The home run is the crown jewel of baseball. A walk-off home run, the most runs scored in a game, is the best result a team can achieve. It can bring excitement to your dugout and pour cold water on the opposing bench. However, there are teams that hit a walk-off home run and still lose. That’s what happened to the Los Angeles Dodgers today.
The Dodgers lost 4-8 to the Texas Rangers on 24 April at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The loss ended a two-game winning streak. They remain in first place in the National League West with a 57-41 record.
The Dodgers were led by Mookie Betts (second base), Freddie Freeman (first base), Will Smith (designated hitter), Chris Taylor (left field), Max Muncy (third base), James Outman (centre field), Miguel Rojas (shortstop), Johnny DeLuca (right field), Austin Barnes (catcher) and starting pitcher Emmitt Sheehan.
Texas, on the other hand, was Marcus Simeon (second base)-Travis Jankowski (right field)-Nathaniel Lowe (first base)-Josh Young (third base)-Jonah Heim (catcher)-Ezequiel Duran (shortstop)-Brad Miller (designated hitter)-Roddy Taveras (centre field)-Josh Smith (left field) and starter Martin Perez.
The teams traded blows early in the game. It was the Dodgers who struck first. In the top of the first, Betts doubled and Freeman singled up the middle to put runners on first and third. Smith flied out to left field, but Taylor drew a walk to load the bases.
With a clear scoring opportunity, a cannonball went off. Muncy blasted a grand slam over the right field fence for a 4-0 lead.
That was as good as it got, but then the Dodgers gave up back-to-back runs in the first inning. In the bottom of the first inning, Heim hit a two-run double with runners on first and second to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Another run came in the bottom of the second. Simeon singled with runners on first and second to make it 4-3. He then gave up an RBI single to Lowe to make it 4-4 and an RBI single to Young to make it 5-4.
Sheehan was unable to keep the Texas bats at bay for long. After back-to-back singles by leadoff hitter Duran and Miller in the bottom of the third, he gave up a two-run double to Taveras with runners on first and second to cut the deficit to 4-7. Then, in the top of the fourth, Duran hit a two-run double with two outs to make it 4-8.
The Dodgers were unable to create any scoring opportunities. In the top of the fifth, leadoff hitter Freeman singled to right, but the subsequent batters were silent. One out later in the eighth, Taylor doubled, but again, no runs scored.바카라사이트
The Dodgers lost Sheehan, who gave up eight runs on eight hits with five walks and four strikeouts in 3⅔ innings. It was his worst outing of the season and his first career loss in the big leagues.
At the plate, Muncy hit a grand slam and Freeman had a multi-hit game, but they were overshadowed by the loss.
