“Last year’s mistakes, we didn’t want to repeat them,” says KU air defense coach Park Mubin

Korea University defeats Bokbyeong Dongguk University.

Korea University cruised to a 96-56 victory over Dongguk University in the 2023 KUSF University Basketball U-League at Dongguk University Gymnasium on Feb. 2. KU remained in sole possession of first place with an 11-game winning streak.

After dominating in rebounds, assists, and steals from the first quarter, KU jumped out to a 30-13 lead and took control of the game early. KU guard Park Mubin, who did not play in the fourth quarter, scored eight points in each quarter to finish with 24 points, including six 3-pointers, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals in 27 minutes and 12 seconds.

Park said, “I remember last year we beat Yonsei in the U-League and then immediately lost to Chung-Ang University, so we were in a bad mood before the MBC. That part of last year was also a mistake, but I think it would be a bigger mistake to repeat the same mistake, so I went into the game with the mindset that I would never let that happen this year,” said Park.

“We had some players missing for the U-19 national team and some injuries, but I think we focused on each other and finished the game well,” he said of the victory.

KU dominated the game from the start. Park Mubin also mentioned that the reason for the extra focus was due to the painful memories of last year.

“We lost to Yonsei in my freshman and sophomore years, so I had a really big desire to win last year, and I was able to win the game with that mindset, but I think I was too relaxed while achieving my goal. Against Chung-Ang University, we were ahead in the first half, but we lost in the third quarter when we started to get hot. I’m still giddy thinking about it now. So I kept reminding myself of that, and I taught the freshmen who didn’t know that. Now we have to finish the rest of the U-League well and prepare well for the MBC.”

Korea University is currently undefeated in 11 matches. It is the only undefeated team this season. Naturally, the goal is to win an undefeated championship.

“We did well last year, but we also lost to Chung-Ang University, and I think we need to do better than last year,” said Park Mubin. We think of last year’s record as a stepping stone to this year, so of course we aim higher and win the whole tournament. However, there are still a lot of games left, so I don’t pay much attention to that, and I’m going to focus on one game at a time.”

Meanwhile, KU head coach Joo Hee-jeong countered that Park Mubin and Moon Jung-hyun’s shots improved in their fourth year, saying, “They have always had a long shooting distance and good shooting ability.”

“When they came to college and were exposed to adult basketball, their shots were shaky because they lacked physical strength and couldn’t fight, but their shooting ability was always there,” Joo emphasized. “Now, with their physical strength and weight as a foundation, they have found their shooting ability and shooting condition,” he explained.

In particular, he praised Park Mubin, saying, “His defense has improved a lot.”

“My shooting is something I’m working on personally,” Park said. I didn’t pay much attention to the criticism about my lack of free throws. If you hear too much praise, you can become complacent, and if you hear too much criticism, you can become passive, so I just tried to endure it and play the way I want to play and the way the team wants to play.”토토사이트

“In high school, I was an offensive player, but when I came to college, I learned defense and helped the team defend, so I got stronger physically, and I think shooting with confidence played a role in my success rate,” he added.

“I don’t think I’m good enough to be confident, but I think I’ve understood and grown a lot compared to before. I’m going to try to do more.”
