Money is not everything.
“Luka Modric (37, Real Madrid) has rejected a €200 million (KRW 279.7 billion) offer from Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia),” British media outlet Sky Sports reported on July 17 (KST). Modric reportedly wants to continue his career at Real Madrid.
Modric is still playing at the highest level at a young age. He has continued to anchor Real Madrid’s midfield as the years have passed. After joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, he has already spent 11 seasons with the club.
Most recently, he led his country Croatia to the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League (UNL) final. He started and played the full game in the semifinal against the Netherlands on May 15. He played the full 120 minutes, despite the game going into extra time. He even scored the game-winning penalty kick in the 11th minute of overtime. It was a performance that defied his 37 years of age.
Modric’s contract with Real Madrid expires this summer. With the possibility of becoming a free agent, Al Hilal has been steadily approaching him.먹튀검증
Al-Hilal have offered Modric a whopping €200 million a year. That’s the same amount as Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. Ronaldo joined Al Nasr in December last year. Benzema recently completed his move to Al Ittihad. Both players, like Modric, were among the best players in Europe.
But Modric was different. He turned down Al Hilal’s offer. He wanted to continue his career at Real Madrid. And Real Madrid wants to keep him. According to several local media reports, he is set to sign a one-year contract. His career in Europe is expected to continue.
