Taiwan’s 2023 WBC national team entry confirmed

Reporter Han Nam-jik = Taiwan has confirmed the national team roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC) to be held in March.

On the 6th, the Taiwanese national team, led by coach Lin Yue-bing, revealed the roster of 24 players in Taiwanese professional baseball, including 6 foreign players.

There are three players who play in Japanese professional baseball.

The Japanese team with the most spectacular career is Song Zhao, the right-handed bullpen of the Rakuten Golden Eagles.

Song Zhao pitched in 54 games last year and posted an ERA of 2.61 with 4 wins, 2 losses and 20 holds. His career record in Japanese professional baseball is 248 games, 16 wins, 12 losses, 7 saves, 87 holds, and an earned run average of 2.96.

Wu Nianting (Seibu Lions) is an infielder who played in 130 games in 2021 and 94 last year. He has the advantage of being able to play any position in the infield.

After recording a batting average of 40% or more for two consecutive seasons in 2016 and 2017 in Taiwan, he advanced to Japan, but outfielder Wang Bo-rung (Nippon Ham Fighters), who had not yet established himself in Japan, was also selected for the WBC national team.

There are also three ‘Americans’.

Infielder Jang Yu-jeong, who played 69 games in the major leagues in the U.S. while wandering around the Cleveland Guardians, Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox last year, joined the Taiwanese national team even though he has yet to find a team.

Pitcher Deng Gaiwei of the San Francisco Giants’ Minor League Double-A team, and Pittsburgh Minor League Single-A infielder Zheng Zongje will also compete in the WBC.

Among Taiwanese domestic players, the player most familiar to Korean fans is pitcher Wang Wei-chung (Weiquan Dragons).

Wang Wei-chung played for the NC Dinos in the KBO League in 2018, posting an average ERA of 4.26 with 7 wins and 10 losses in 25 games. 토토사이트
