The downfall of the ‘Man U goal’…from 0 league goals to ‘released’ after one year at Nottingham

Former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has not been resurrected at Nottingham Forest.

“The contracts of six players, including Lingard, have been terminated. They will leave the club on a free transfer and we would like to thank them for their contribution to the club.”

Lingard, who was the “Holy Grail” of United’s youth system, rising through the ranks to make his first-team debut, headed to Nottingham last summer after falling out of favor. After winning promotion from the second-tier Championship, Nottingham looked set for a resurgence.

Nottingham had high hopes for Lingard, paying him £200,000 a week. But he performed poorly. In 17 league games, Lingard scored 0 goals, 0 assists, and no offensive points. In the League Cup, he scored two goals and provided two assists.

Lingard’s poor form pushed Nottingham to the brink of relegation. They managed to stay up, four points ahead of 18th-placed Leicester City, but they couldn’t rely on Lingard.

Ultimately, Lingard’s resurgence was short-lived, as he was released by Nottingham a year after joining the club.

The UK’s Daily Mail lamented Lingard’s continued failure.

“Having come through the United youth ranks, Lindegaard struggled to break into the first-team set-up despite spending significant time under former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer,” the publication said. “He had a successful loan spell at West Ham in 2021 but had another poor year on his return to Old Trafford, eventually leaving the club out of contract,” it added.먹튀검증

“The Hammers were keen to sign Lingard, who scored nine goals in 16 games, but ultimately failed to secure a deal. Nottingham signed him on a free transfer, where he struggled and left the club again.”

“His departure from Nottingham is sure to spark a flurry of rumors about his future,” he said, adding that “he is expected to be away from the Premier League for a while” and that he may not be able to play in the Premier League.
